Port Said

Port Said (Arabic بورسعيد, transliterated ) is a northeastern Egyptian city near the Suez Canal, with an approx. population of 1,500,000.The economic base of Port Said is fishing and industries, like chemicals, processed food, and cigarettes. Port Said is also an important harbour both for exports of Egyptian products like cotton and rice, but also a fuelling station for ships that pass through the Suez Canal. Port Said also thrives on being a duty-free port, as well as a summer resort for Egyptians.

Port Said (, Būr Saʿīd) ist eine Stadt im Nordosten Ägyptens am Mittelmeer. Der Sueskanal verbindet von hier aus den europäischen Wirtschaftsraum mit den arabischen und fernöstlichen Handelszentren.Port Said mit seinen 529.684 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2004) liegt rund 200 km nordöstlich der ägyptischen Hauptstadt Kairo. Die Stadt ist nach dem ehemaligen Vizekönig Muhammad Said benannt worden.Port Said ist nach Alexandria der wichtigste ägyptische Hafen. Er ist Umschlagplatz für Baumwolle und Reis, zugleich aber auch Tanklager für die Schiffe, die den Sueskanal durchqueren. Die chemische Industrie, die Zigarettenproduktion und die Salzgewinnung sind weitere wichtige Industrieansiedlungen. Der ehemals wichtige Fischfang spielt nur noch eine untergeordnete Rolle.

Port Said (arab. بورسعيد, transliteracja: Būr Saʻīd) to nazwa miasta egipskiego (populacja ok. 500 tys.) leżącego na północnym wschodzie tego kraju, nad Morzem Śródziemnym, w pobliżu Kanału Sueskiego. Zostało założone w 1859 r. w związku z rozbudową tego kanału. Nazwane na cześć Said Paszy, wicekróla Egiptu.
