Pope

The Pope (from Latin: papa, father; from Greek  (papas) = father - originally written (pappas), as in Homer's Odyssey, book VI, line 57) is the Bishop of Rome, the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church and head of state of Vatican City. Faith communities which recognize Apostolic Succession acknowledge the Bishop of Rome as successor of St Peter. As such, Catholics believe the pope to be the Vicar of Christ, while the other faith communities disacknowledge Petrine primacy among the bishops. The office of the pope is called the "papacy"; his ecclesiastical jurisdiction is called the "Holy See" (Sancta Sedes in Latin) or "Apostolic See" (this latter, on the basis that both St. Peter and St. Paul were martyred at Rome). Early bishops occupying the See of Rome were designated "Vicar of Peter"; for later popes the more authoritative Vicar of Christ was substituted; this designation was first used by the Roman Synod of 495 to refer to Pope Gelasius I, an advocate of papal supremacy among the patriarchs. Marcellinus (d. 304) is the first Bishop of Rome whom sources show used the title of pope. In the 11th century, after the East-West Schism, Gregory VII declared the term "Pope" to be reserved for the Bishop of Rome. The current (265th) pope is Pope Benedict XVI, who was elected April 19, 2005 in papal conclave.

Popé (Po'pay) (born ca. 1630 - died ca 1688) was a Tewa religious leader from Ohkay Owingeh (formerly known as San Juan Pueblo), who led the Pueblo Revolt against Spanish colonial rule in 1680.Popé is one of 47 Native Americans who were accused, arrested and tried for practicing "sorcery" in 1675. Three of the men who were found guilty were taken to their respective villages; two were hanged. One hanged himself before the Spanish could. The remaining 44 were publicly whipped and sentenced to prison.

Pope est un terme utilisé par les Occidentaux pour désigner les prêtres chrétiens orthodoxes. Il provient du russe pop, lui-même emprunté au grec παππαζ (pappas); communément admis à l'époque médiévale pour désigner un prêtre, ce terme de pop est devenu archaïque, son usage n'étant plus courant que parmi la paysannerie après l'occidentalisation de la Russie. Progressivement, une connotation péjorative s'est attachée à ce terme au cours des dix-neuvième et vingtième siècles, devenant presque injurieux dans le discours officiel soviétique. Après la chute de l'URSS, il est tombé non seulement en désuétude parmi les russophones des anciennes républiques, mais de plus, il serait généralement considéré comme grossier aussi bien parmi des croyants que les non-croyants.

On appelle pape un certain nombre de chefs d'Églises chrétiennes. Parmi celles-ci :l'Église catholique romaine dont le pape est l'évêque de Rome, chef spirituel des catholiques du diocèse de Rome et chef temporel de l'État du Vatican. Le pape catholique actuel est Benoît XVI, élu à l'âge de 78 ans le .l'Église copte dont le pape actuel est Chenouda III, qui réside au Caire, en Égypte; elle affirme que sa lignée remonte à Marc l'évangéliste. Certaines Église orthodoxes dont le patriarche porte entre autres le titre de pape, en particulier celle d'Alexandrie dont le pape-patriarche actuel est Théodore II. Seuls les deux premiers utilisent le titre de pape comme titre principal. Pour les autres, ce n'est qu'un titre annexe rarement employé.

Popé (* 1630; † 1688) war der Führer und Organisator des Pueblo-Aufstands von 1680. Er gehörte zum Volk der San Juan-Pueblo-Indianer, die seit Jahrzehnten, genau so wie viele andere Pueblo-Völker im Tal des Rio Grande in New Mexico, unter der brutalen Unterdrückung der Spanier litten.

Papst (von griech.: pappas „Vater“; v. lat.: papa „Vater“) ist der religiöse Titel vor allem für das Oberhaupt der Römisch-Katholischen Kirche (auch: Heiliger Vater oder Santo Padre).Unter der Bezeichnung Heiliger Stuhl agiert der römische Papst sowohl allein als auch zusammen mit der Kurie international als nichtstaatliches Völkerrechtssubjekt  und vertritt zugleich den Staat Vatikanstadt (als staatliches Völkerrechtssubjekt), dessen Staatsoberhaupt er ist. Der Papst ist auch der Gesetzgeber. Er wird durch eine Kommission vertreten . Päpste sind absolute Monarchen. Zwar wird der Papst gewählt, doch kann er beispielsweise alle Teile der Verfassung bezüglich der Papstwahl und der Vertretung des Papstes durch jene gesetzgebende Kommission außer Kraft setzen.

Papa (dal greco πάππας, padre) è il titolo detenuto dal vescovo di Roma della Chiesa cattolica, oltre che dai patriarchi ortodossi di Alessandria d'Egitto e dai papi copti. I papi hanno sempre mantenuto tale denominazione, anche se non è scorretto parlare di arcivescovo di Roma, in virtù del primato territoriale della città o, anche patriarca di Roma perché sede di un apostolo.
