Point source
A point source is a single identifiable localized source of something. A point source has negligible extent, distinguishing it from other source geometries. Sources are called point sources because in mathematical modeling, these sources can usually be approximated as a mathematical
point to simplify analysis.

point source
Noun
1. a spatially constricted by concentrated source (especially of radiation or pollution)
(hypernym) beginning, origin, root, rootage, source
point source
A source of
electromagnetic radiation such that (a) the source is so distant from a point of observation or measurement of the radiation that the
wavefront of the radiation is a planar rather than a curved surface, regardless of the shape of the source, (b) the size or shape of the source has no influence on the shape of the wavefront at the point of observation or measurement, and (c) the source need not necessarily radiate with equal
radiance in all directions. [

Point Source
A stationary location or fixed facility from which pollutants are discharged; any single identifiable source of pollution; e.g. a pipe, ditch, ship, ore pit, factory smokestack.
Point source
A single identifiable source that discharges pollutants into the environment. Examples are smokestack, sewer, ditch, or pipe. See
non-point source.
