Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria after the capital Sofia with a population of 338,153 inhabitants as of February, 2011. It is administrative center of Plovdiv Province and the municipalities of City of Plovdiv, Maritsa municipality and Rodopi municipality, which municipal body has a population of 403,153 inhabitants as of February, 2011. It is an important economic, transport, cultural and educational center, as well as the second-largest city in the historical international region of Thrace after Istanbul. It is the tenth-largest city in the Balkans after Istanbul, Athens, Bucharest, Sofia, Thessaloniki, Zagreb, Skopje and Tirana.

Plowdiw [] (bulgarisch ) (gebräuchliche (englische) Transkription: Plovdiv; : Filibe, gr. Φιλιππούπολις/Philippoupolis, thrak. Evmolpia, Pulpudeva oder Eumolpias, lat. Trimontium, slaw. Pulden oder Pupulden) ist mit 376.048 Einwohnern die zweitgrößte Stadt Bulgariens, Verwaltungszentrum einer gleichnamigen Gemeinde und Oblast (Bezirk), sowie Sitz von drei Gemeinden. Mit ihrer achttausendjährigen Geschichte zählt sie zu den ältesten Städten Europas. Über Plowdiw verlaufen Luft- und Land-Transportwege mit internationaler Bedeutung, wie zum Beispiel Sofia–Edirne–Istanbul oder Sofia–Stara Sagora–Burgas.

Plovdiv (en bulgare Пловдив, en grec ancien Φιλιππόπολις, en grec Philippoupoli, Φιλιππούπολη) est une ville de Bulgarie. Elle compte environ habitants (recensement de 2004) et est donc la deuxième ville du pays. Son aire d'influence s'étend sur une vaste région de la plaine de Thrace.
