The is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment and the successor to the PlayStation 2 as part of the PlayStation series. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. It was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan, with international markets following shortly thereafter.

Playstation 3, officiellt förkortat PS3, är det japanska teknikföretaget Sonys tredje spelkonsol, efterföljare till Playstation 2 och Playstation. Den tillhör sjunde generationens spelkonsoler, där den konkurrerar med Microsofts Xbox 360 och Nintendos Wii. Jämfört med konkurrenterna har Playstation 3 sålts i förhållandevis få exemplar och är dyrare, men har bättre prestanda, fler anslutningsmöjligheter och en inbyggd blu-ray-spelare. Konsolen släpptes den 11 november 2006 i Japan och den 17 november 2006 i USA, Kanada, Hongkong och Taiwan. Lanseringen, som blev försenad ett antal gånger, skedde i Europa, Afrika, Mellanöstern och Australasien (PAL-länderna) den 23 mars 2007.

Sony PlayStation 3 (potocznie PS3; znak towarowy PLAYSTATION 3) jest konsolą do gier firmy Sony, czwartą w rodzinie PlayStation. Jej premiera odbyła się 11 listopada 2006 w Japonii i  17 listopada w USA. W innych regionach, w tym w Europie premiera odbyła się 23 marca 2007. Konsola jest następcą PlayStation 2. Tylko wersja NTSC (Ameryka i Japonia) jest z nią wstecznie kompatybilna. Dostępna w czterech wersjach (z dyskiem twardym 20 GB, 40 GB, 60 GB i 80 GB - w Europie w tej chwili dostępna jest tylko jedna wersja, 40 GB. Wersje 20 GB (tylko Ameryka Północna i Japonia) i 60 GB zostały wycofane z produkcji), ma konkurować z konsolami Microsoftu (Xbox 360) oraz Nintendo (Wii). Cena wersji 40 GB w Polsce wynosi oficjalnie 1599 zł. W sprzedaży znajduje się także wersja, której Sony już nie dystrybuuje, Starter Pack w skład której oprócz konsoli (w wersji 60 GB) wchodzą dwie gry (Resistance: Fall Of Man, Motorstorm) oraz drugi, dodatkowy pad Sixaxis. Opcja ta znajduje się w sprzedaży w cenie 1999 zł. Natomiast w lutym 2008 r. w Polsce pojawił się nowy Starter Pack, w skład którego wchodzą dwie gry ( Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction; FIFA 08) i dodatkowy pad Sixaxis, w cenie 1899zł..
