The PlayStation 2 (プレイステーション2, Pureisutēshon Tsū, officially abbreviated PS2) is a video game console manufactured by Sony as part of the PlayStation series. It was first released on March 4, 2000, in Japan, and then was released on October 26, 2000 in North America, and November 24, 2000 in Europe. As part of the sixth-generation of gaming, its primary competitors were the Sega Dreamcast, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube.

Elle fut lancée le 4 mars 2000 au Japon (le 26 octobre 2000 en Amérique du Nord, le 24 novembre 2000 en Europe), et a connu un succès immédiat (980 000 exemplaires vendus en 48 heures). Sa ludothèque comprend de nombreux titres, dont certaines licences connues qui ont fait sa renommée : Tekken 5, Gran Turismo 4, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Pro Evolution Soccer 6, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, ou encore Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
