Pjongjang

Pyongyang is the capital city of North Korea, located on the Taedong River, at (39.0333, 125.75). The official population of the city is not disclosed; given as 2,741,260 in 1993, it was reported as 2.5 and 3.8 million in 2002 and 2003 by  Chongryon, a pro-North Korean Japanese organization. The city was split from the South P'yŏngan province in 1946. It is administered as a Directly Governed City (Chikhalsi), on the same level as provincial governments, not a Special City (Teukbyeolsi) as Seoul is in South Korea. Some sources, mostly older and South Korean, refer to P'yŏngyang as a Special City, but it has been reported that even the South Korean government adopted the Directly Governed City terminology in 1994.

Pjöngjang ist die Hauptstadt Nordkoreas und liegt im Südwesten des Landes. Sie steht unter zentraler Verwaltung der Regierung. In der eigentlichen Stadt – dem geographischen Stadtgebiet – leben 3.059.678 Menschen (2007). Das gesamte Verwaltungsgebiet Pjöngjangs, zu dem auch vier Landkreise gehören, hat 3.871.335 Einwohner (2007).

Pjongjang (znany w Polsce w transkrypcji z języka rosyjskiego jako Phenian; kor. 평양; hancha 平壤, w języku koreańskim nazwa oznacza płaski teren) – stolica Korei Północnej położona w zachodniej części kraju, na nizinie nadmorskiej, na wysokości ok. 85 m n.p.m., nad rzeką Taedong, ok. 50 km od jej ujścia do Zatoki Zachodniokoreańskiej (Morze Żółte). Główny ośrodek gospodarczy i naukowo-kulturowy kraju. Miasto znajduje się mniej więcej w odległości 100 km od granicy z Koreą Południową (DMZ).

P'yŏngyang Chikhalsi (in Hangul 평양특별시, in  Hanja 平壤直轄市), nota nel mondo più comunemente come P'yŏngyang o Pyongyang (Hangul 평양, Hanja 平壤, i cui caratteri sono letti in  giapponese Heijo e in cinese Heizyo) è una città (2.741.260 ab.) della Corea nord-occidentale; centro commerciale e culturale, capitale della Corea del Nord. Al centro della più importante zona mineraria, è la maggiore città industriale del paese.
