Pinatubo

Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, at the intersection of the borders of the provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. Ancestral Pinatubo was a stratovolcano made of andesite and dacite. Before 1991, the mountain was inconspicuous and heavily eroded. It was covered in dense forest which supported a population of several thousand indigenous people, the Aeta, who had fled to the mountains from the lowlands when the Spanish conquered the Philippines in 1565.

Pinatubo ist ein aktiver Vulkan auf den Philippinen im Zentrum der Insel Luzon. Der heute 1486 Meter hohe Berg (vor dem Ausbruch von 1991 = 1.745 m hoch) liegt 93 km nordwestlich von  Manila und 26 km westlich von  Angeles. Er befindet sich auf den Grenzen der Provinzen Zambales, Bataan und Pampanga. Bis zum Jahr 1991 galt der Vulkan als erloschen. Als die Spanier 1565 die Philippinen eroberten, diente der Berg fliehenden Eingeborenen, den Aeta, als Versteck, da er damals von dichtem Wald bewachsen war.

Pinatubo - czynny wulkan na wyspie Luzon (Filipiny); erupcja w czerwcu 1991 r. spowodowała śmierć ok. 800 osób na skutek opadów popiołowych, bomb wulkanicznych, laharów, oraz z powodu chorób epidemicznych. Setki osób zostało rannych.
