Pimentón

Paprika is a spice made from the grinding of dried sweet red bell peppers (Capsicum annuum). In many European countries the name paprika also refers to bell peppers themselves. The seasoning is used in many cuisines to add colour and flavour to dishes. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word comes from the Hungarian "paprika", which derives from the Serbian "paprika", which means "the one that is hot" and it is derived from Serbian papar "pepper" which in turn was borrowed from the Latin "piper", for "pepper."Paprika is used as an ingredient in a broad variety of dishes throughout the world. Paprika (pimentón in Spain, colorau in Portugal, chiltoma in Nicaragua, but these "paprikas" are not made exclusively from bell peppers, other varieties are used, and there are several hot and sweet "paprikas") is principally used to season and colour rices, stews, and soups, such as goulash. In Spain, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Portugal, paprika is also used in the preparation of sausages as an ingredient that is mixed with meats and other spices. Paprika may be smoked for additional flavour.

Capsicum annuum, Spanischer Pfeffer oder Paprika, ist eine Pflanzenart aus der Familie der Nachtschattengewächse (Solanaceae). Der Ursprung der Pflanzensorten liegt in Süd- und Mittelamerika, natürliche Vorkommen reichen jedoch bis in den Süden Nordamerikas. Die Art ist der am weitesten verbreitete Vertreter der Gattung Paprika (Capsicum), bis auf wenige Ausnahmen zählen alle in Europa und ein Großteil der weltweit angebauten Paprika und Chili zu Capsicum annuum.

Papryka (pieprz turecki) - owoce papryki rocznej przeznaczone do spożycia w postaci świeżej lub konserwowanej jako warzywo, względnie świeżej, konserwowanej, suszonej lub suszonej i zmielonej (papryka w proszku) jako przyprawa lub dodatek do potraw. |} De paprika is de vrucht van bepaalde gekweekte vormen van Capsicum annuum. Andere gekweekte vormen van deze zelfde soort hebben heel anders uitziende vruchten die bekend staan als rode peper of Spaanse peper. De soort komt oorspronkelijk uit Zuid-Amerika, maar de paprika is naar ons gekomen via Hongarije. De soort werd, net als rode peper, in Hongarije geïntroduceerd door de Turken: Hongarije is jaren lang deel geweest van het Groot Ottomaanse Rijk. In Hongarije is verder gekweekt tot veel meer rassen. De naam paprika is afkomstig uit het Hongaars, waar het pepertje betekent.
