Phrixus

In Greek mythology, Phrixus figured prominently in the story of Jason and the Argonauts. Phrixus, son of Athamus and Nephele (a goddess of Clouds), along with his twin sister Helle, were hated by their stepmother, Ino. Ino hatched a devious plot to get rid of the twins, roasting all the town's crop seeds so they would not grow. The local farmers, frightened of famine, asked a nearby oracle for assistance. Ino bribed the men sent to the oracle to lie and tell the others that the oracle required the sacrifice of Phrixus and Helle. Before they were killed, though, Phrixus and Helle were rescued by a flying golden ram sent by Nephele, their natural mother. During their flight Helle swooned, fell off the ram and died, but Phrixus survived all the way to Colchis, where King Aeëtes took him in and treated him kindly, giving Phrixus his daughter, Chalciope, in marriage. In gratitude, Phrixus gave the king the golden fleece of the ram, which Aeëtes hung in a tree in his kingdom.

In der griechischen Mythologie ist Phrixos der Sohn des Königs Athamas von Boiotien und seiner ersten Frau Nephele. Seine Schwester ist Helle.Athamas' zweite Frau Ino hasst Phrixos und Helle. Ino versuchte, die Zwillinge umzubringen, indem sie alles Korn im Lande röstete, so dass die Saat nicht aufgehen konnte. Die Bauern, in Angst vor einer Hungesnot, baten ein nahe gelegenes Orakel um Hilfe. Ino bestach die zum Orakel geschickten Männer, dass sie behaupten sollten, das Orakel fordere die Opferung des Phrixos. Bevor er getötet werden konnte, wurden Phrixos und Helle von einem fliegenden Widder namens Chrysomeles gerettet, der durch ihre natürliche Mutter Nephele geschickt wurde. Helle stürzte jedoch auf der Flucht ins Meer, welches daraufhin nach ihr benannt wurde (Hellespont).

Fryksos (gr. Fríksos) - postać z mitologii greckiej, syn Atamasa i Nefele, brat bliźniak Helle. Druga żona Atamasa, Ino, prześladowała dzieci. Aby się ich pozbyć namówiła męża, aby oddał Fryksosa na ofiarę bogom. Jednak we śnie Fryksosowi ukazała się Nefele i poleciła mu uciekać wraz z siostrą. Aby pomóc dzieciom w ucieczce bogini zesłała im barana o złotym runie, który uniósł je na wschód. Kiedy przelatywali nad cieśniną oddzielającą Europę od Azji, Helle spadła do morza i zginęła. Na pamiątkę tego zdarzenia Grecy nazwali cieśninę Hellespontem. Fryksos dotarł do Kolchidy, gdzie został przyjęty przez króla Ajetes, który ofiarował mu rękę swojej córki Chalkiope. Fryksos jako podziękowanie za uratowanie życia złożył barana w ofierze Zeusowi, a jego runo powiesił na dębie w gaju poświęconym Aresowi.
