The Philippine Sea is a marginal sea east and north of the Philippines occupying an estimated surface area of 2 million mi² (5 million km²) on the western part of the North Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by the Philippine archipelago (Luzon, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao) on the southwest; Palau, Yap, and Ulithi (of the Carolines) on the southeast; the Marianas, including Guam, Saipan, and Tinian, on the east; the Bonin and Iwo Jima on the northeast; the Japanese islands of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu on the north; the Ryukyu Islands on the northwest; and Taiwan in the west.

Die Philippinensee (Philippinisches Meer) ist ein Nebenmeer des Pazifischen Ozeans. Sie entspricht in ihrer Ausdehnung weitgehend der Philippinischen Platte. Sie liegt am Westrand des Pazifik und wird im Westen von den Philippinen und Taiwan begrenzt. Die Flächenausdehnung beträgt etwa 5 Millionen km². Nach Norden hin wird sie von den Ryukyu-Inseln und Japan begrenzt, gen Süden von Palau und im Osten bilden die Marianen, die Vulkan-Inseln, die Bonin-Inseln und die Izu-Inseln den Abschluss zum offenen Pazifik. Die Philippinensee ist eines der tiefsten Meere der Welt. An ihrem westlichen Rand wird sie vom bis zu 10.540 m tiefen Philippinengraben durchzogen, den man bis 1970 für den tiefsten Punkt der Erdoberfläche gehalten hatte, als dieser gilt heute eine Stelle im Marianengraben.

Filippinska sjön, eller Filippinerhavet, är den del av västra Stilla havet som omges av Filippinerna, Taiwan och Japan i väst, av Marianerna och Palau i öst och Indonesien i syd. Angränsande hav är Sulawesisjön (Celebessjön), som skiljs åt av Mindanao och mindre öar i söder, Sydkinesiska sjön, som avskiljs av Filippinerna, och Östkinesiska sjön, som skiljs åt av Ryukyuöarna.
