Philippe Quinault

Philippe Quinault (June 3, 1635 – November 26, 1688), French dramatist and librettist, was born in Paris.He was educated by the liberality of Tristan L'Hermite, the author of Marianne. Quinault's first play was produced at the Hôtel de Bourgogne in 1653, when he was only eighteen. The piece succeeded, and Quinault followed it up, but he also read for the bar; and in 1660, when he married a widow with money, he bought himself a place in the Cour des Comptes. Then he tried tragedies (Agrippa, etc.) with more success.

Philippe Quinault (* 3. Juni 1635; † 26. November 1688) war ein französischer Dichter, der sowohl für das Sprech- als auch für das Musiktheater Textbücher verfasste und insbesondere als Librettist und Assistent von Jean-Baptiste Lully bekannt wurde. Gemeinsam mit diesem verhalf er der  französischen Oper im Wettbewerb mit dem italienischen Stil zum Durchbruch.

Introdotto nei salotti mondano-letterari da Tristan l'Hermite (al cui servizio era entrato come valletto), Quinault iniziò una brillante carriera. Sposatosi con una ricca vedova nel 1660, ebbe i mezzi per comprarsi successivamente i titoli di valet de chambre du roi e di auditeur à la chambre des comptes; nel 1670 venne accolto all' Académie Française.

Philippe Quinault (n. París, 3 de junio de 1635 - † 26 de noviembre de 1688), fue un poeta francés, dedicado tanto al teatro hablado como cantado y especialmente conocido como libretista y asistente de Jean-Baptiste Lully. Junto al compositor, contribuyó a la causa de la ópera francesa en su rivalidad con el estilo italiano.
