Pest (county)

Pest County is a county (megye) in central Hungary. It covers an area of 6394 km², and has a population of 1,077,300 (2003). It is located around the national capital Budapest. It shares borders with Slovakia and the Hungarian counties Nógrád, Heves, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Bács-Kiskun, Fejér and Komárom-Esztergom. The river Danube flows through the county. The capital of Pest county is Budapest.

Pest è una città storica dell'Ungheria. Nel 1873 confluì con Buda e Óbuda a costituire Budapest, di cui oggi costituisce tutta la parte ad est del Danubio. Pest è la zona più commerciale ed industriale di Budapest. Da essa prende nome l'omonima provincia di cui è capoluogo.
