Weight: 25-30 lbs.
Life Span: 12-15 yrs.
Breed Group: Herding Dogs
Overview
Pembroke Welsh corgis are very bright and easy to train. They make good family dogs, especially if they get early training and are frequently exposed to children, whom they may otherwise try to herd by nipping at their heels. Pembrokes, usually reserved with strangers, make good guard dogs. They are friendly toward other dogs, although two male corgis in the same household are bound to fight for dominance. They get along with small animals, such as cats, especially if socialized with them at an early age.
Appearance
The weather-resistant undercoat of the Pembroke Welsh corgi is short and thick; the outercoat is longer and coarser. Coat color is red, sable, fawn, or black and tan, with or without white on the legs, chest, neck, muzzle, underparts, and in a narrow blaze on the head. The ear tips are pointed and the tail is short.
Grooming & Exercise Needs
Pembrokes need to be brushed once a week. They need a couple of brisk walks around the block every day for exercise.
Origins
The Pembroke Welsh corgi was reportedly brought to the British Isles in 1100 by Flemish weavers who settled in Wales and used the Pembroke, known for its stamina and enthusiasm, to drive cattle. Special Alerts
