Pegasos

The present article is about the Pegasos computer platform. Pegasos may also refer to the horse Pegasus from Greek mythology. Pegasos is a MicroATX motherboard powered by a PowerPC G3/G4  microprocessor, featuring 3 PCI slots, 1 AGP slot, two Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 & 10/100), USB, DDR, AC97 sound, and FireWire. Like the PowerPC Apple Macintosh counterparts, it boots via Open Firmware.The Pegasos is sold by Genesi USA, Inc., and designed by their R&D branch bplan GmBH based in Frankfurt, Germany.

Le Pegasos est une carte mère microATX utilisant un microprocesseur RISC PowerPC d'IBM et/ou Freescale (PowerPC G3 et G4). Grâce à sa conception modulaire, le Pegasos est adapté à de multiples utilisations. Les standards actuels y sont intégrés afin d'y connecter de nombreux périphériques.

Pegasos ist ein CHRP-basierter PowerPC-Desktop-Rechner von Genesi, der Betriebssysteme wie MorphOS und LinuxPPC unterstützt. Über Mac-on-Linux können auch Power Macs emuliert werden.Der Pegasos ist auch Kernbestandteil der ODW (Open Desktop Workstation) bzw. OSW (Open Server Workstation) von IBM und Freescale. Als Entwicklungsziele sind hier jedoch weniger Desktop-Rechner als z. B.  eingebettete Systeme im Fokus. Auch Genesi adressiert mit dem EFIKA-Board den Markt für Thin Clients, Heimkino-Systeme und Embedded Systems bzw. Unterhaltungselektronik.

Pegasos to nazwa płyt głównych komputerów produkowanych przez firmę Genesi. Płyty te oparte są na procesorach PowerPC z serii G3 i G4. Płyta Pegasos I oparta jest o chipset Articia S firmy Mai Logic i procesor PowerPC G3 (750 CX) taktowany częstotliwością 600 MHz. Jak się wkrótce okazało, układ Articia S przejawiał nieoczekiwane zachowania związane z transmisjami DMA. Dlatego w płycie Pegasos II wykorzystano układ Discovery II firmy Marvell, oprócz procesora G3 można w niej zainstalować procesor G4 (7447) taktowany zegarem 1,0 GHz.

Il Pegasos è una motherboard che impiega processori PowerPC sviluppata e commercializzata a partire dal 2002 da bplan, ditta fondata da ex-dipendenti di Phase5, una casa produttrice di hardware per le macchine Amiga, tra cui le famiglie di schede acceleratrici Blizzard (per gli Amiga 1200) e Cyberstorm (per gli Amiga 3000 e 4000).
