Paul of Tarsus

St. Paul the Apostle ( Šaʾul HaTarsi, meaning "Saul of Tarsus"), the "Apostle to the Gentiles" was, together with Saint Peter, the most notable of Early Christian missionaries. In the New Testament account, Paul did not know Jesus in life. Unlike the Twelve Apostles, he came to faith through a vision of the risen Jesus and stressed that his apostolic authority was based on his vision. As he wrote, he "received it [the Gospel] by revelation from Jesus Christ"; according to Acts, his conversion took place as he was traveling the road to Damascus.

Paul de Tarse (à l'origine Saül) ou saint Paul pour les chrétiens (né v. 10 à Tarse, en Cilicie (auj. Içe, en Turquie) – mort v. 65 à Rome) est l'une des figures principales du christianisme, par le rôle qu'il a joué dans son expansion initiale, et par son interprétation de l'enseignement de Jésus. Selon le Nouveau Testament (livre des Actes des Apôtres et Épîtres  de Paul), Paul se revendique comme l'un des apôtres de Jésus-Christ qui, quelques années après sa mort, sa résurrection et son ascension, lui serait apparu et l'aurait converti.

Paulus von Tarsus (hebräischer Name: Saul; lat.: Saulus; * unbekannt, † nach 60, eventuell in Rom) ist der erste und wichtigste Theologe der Christentumsgeschichte und neben Simon Petrus der erfolgreichste Missionar des Urchristentums. Als griechisch gebildeter Jude und gesetzestreuer Pharisäer verfolgte Paulus zunächst die Anhänger des gekreuzigten Jesus von Nazaret, dem er nie begegnet war. Doch seit seinem Damaskuserlebnis verstand er sich als von Gott berufener „Apostel des Evangeliums für die Völker“ . Als solcher verkündete er vor allem Nichtjuden den auferstandenen Jesus Christus. Dazu bereiste er den östlichen Mittelmeerraum und gründete dort einige christliche Gemeinden. Durch seine Paulusbriefe  blieb er mit ihnen in Kontakt.

Święty Paweł z Tarsu, Szaweł, Saul, Szaul (ur. ok. 5-10 w Tarsie w Cylicji, zm. 64-67 w Rzymie) - Żyd z Tarsu, święty chrześcijański zwany Apostołem Narodów.Wykształcony w Jerozolimie faryzeusz; początkowo prześladowca chrześcijan. Pod wpływem wydarzenia w drodze do Damaszku około 35/36 roku, nawrócił się i przyjął chrzest. Po krótkim pobycie w Arabii rozpoczął działalność w Damaszku. Później, odwiedziwszy przełożonych gminy w Jerozolimie, wrócił do rodzinnej Cylicji. Za sprawą Barnaby pracował w Antiochii.

Sebbene San Paolo, non fosse tra i dodici apostoli, né tra quelli che seguirono di persona la predicazione di Gesù, è considerato da molti cristiani il più importante discepolo di Gesù.Resta comunque annoverato tra gli apostoli in quanto massimo diffusore del messaggio evangelico e, secondo molti, la più importante figura nello sviluppo del Cristianesimo rappresenta un grande esempio di fede per la quale cambiò completamente la propria vita, in seguito ad un evento miracoloso come da lui stesso descritto, dedicandola esclusivamente alla diffusione del Vangelo di Gesù Cristo, per il quale testimoniò fino alla morte.
