Patna

Paṭnā (Hindi: पटना) is the capital of the Indian state of Bihar, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. The modern city of Patna lies on the southern bank of the Ganges, as it flows past with the combined waters of the rivers Ghagra, Son and Gandak. At the point where the city is located, the sacred Ganges looks more sea than river: mighty, wide and never-ending.A bustling city of 1,800,000 people, the city is approximately 25 km long and 9 km to 10 km wide.

Patna est la capitale de l’État de Bihar, dans le nord-est de l’Inde. La ville était auparavant connue sous les noms de Kusumpura, Pushpapura, Pâtaliputra, et Azeemabad. Patna (hindi पटना, Paṭnā) ist die Hauptstadt des Bundesstaates Bihar, im Nordosten Indiens. Es war früher bekannt unter den Namen Kusumpura, Pushpapura, Pataliputra und bei Muslimen Asimabad. Patna liegt an den südlichen Ufern des Ganges, hat 1.458.800 Einwohner, als Agglomeration 1.808.900 (Stand jeweils 1. Januar 2004) und ist ein wichtiges Landhandelszentrum (Reis, Getreide, Zuckerrohr, Sesam).

(hindi) è la capitale dello stato indiano di Bihar, e ospita a poca distanza innumerevoli luoghi di pellegrinaggio buddhisti, giainisti e sikhisti. Il nome deriva probabilmente da Patan, il nome della devi protettrice della città, o da pattan ("porto" in sanscrito), in quanto la città si trova alla confluenza di quattro fiumi (Gange, Ghagra, Son e Gandak). Nel corso della storia la città è stata conosciuta con molti altri nomi, ad esempio Pataligram, Pataliputra, Kusumpur, Pushpapura e Azimabad.
