Patch (Software)

In computing, a patch is a small piece of software designed to update or fix problems with a computer program or its supporting data. This includes fixing bugs, replacing graphics and improving the usability or performance. Though meant to fix problems, poorly designed patches can sometimes introduce new problems (see software regressions).

Un patch (termes français proposés : rustine ou rustine logicielle, au pluriel : patches respectant l'orthographe anglophone, patchs par francisation ; terme français majoritairement utilisé dans les milieux professionnels : correctif) est une section de code que l'on ajoute à un logiciel, pour y apporter des modifications mineures : correction d'un bogue, traduction, crack.

Ein Patch (von engl. Flicken, in der Bedeutung von Nachbesserung) ist eine Korrekturauslieferung für Software oder Daten aus Endanwendersicht, um z. B. Sicherheitslücken zu schließen, Fehler zu beheben oder bislang nicht vorhandene Funktionalität nachzurüsten. Unter  Microsoft Windows heißen diese Aktualisierungen auch Service Pack, wenn sie aus mehreren zusammengefassten bestehen. Der Begriff stammt noch aus der Zeit, als man kleine Korrekturen an Software auf Lochkarten durch Stanzen bzw. Zukleben einzelner Löcher bewerkstelligte.

Łata, Łatka (ang. patch) – jest to poprawka lub uaktualnienie do programu bądź gry (rzadziej danych), przeznaczona do usunięcia pewnych problemów, błędów, rozszerzenia funkcjonalności programu albo zwiększenia wydajności (ang. performance) wcześniejszej wersji programu.Termin ten powstał prawdopodobnie jako komenda systemu Unix (patch) wprowadzona przez Larry'ego Walla, aby ułatwić wymienianie się poprawkami kodu źródłowego i umożliwić ich szybkie, zautomatyzowane aplikowanie do oryginalnego kodu.Firma Microsoft używa innej terminologii dla swoich poprawek. Mniejsze poprawki nazywane są software updates (aktualizacje), natomiast te bardziej kompleksowe określane są jako service packs (pakiety serwisowe).
