Paramythia

For the bird genus see Paramythia'' Paramythia (, alternative transliteration Paramithia) is a municipality in Thesprotia, Greece. Population 7,859 (2001). The city of Paramythia lies in the county Thesprotia in Epirus link. The name come from the Paramythia's Virgin Mary's name (in ancient Greek means comforter) where and the monastery which stands in perfect condition in the middle of the town link.

Paramythia (griechisch Παραμυθιά) ist eine Stadt im Nordwesten Griechenlands. Mit etwa 8.000 Einwohner ist sie die drittgrößte Stadt in der Präfektur Thesprotia. Südlich des Flusses Kalamas auf einer Höhe von gelegen, bildet die Stadt die griechisch-orthodoxe Metropole der Präfektur. Paramythia ist bekannt für die gut erhaltene Byzantinische Kirche der Jungfrau Maria. Die Stadt liegt in der Nähe eines 750 m hoch gelegenem Amphitheaters, zwischen den Flüssen Acheron und Kalamas. Aus Paramythia - bekannt für ihre Goldschmuckverarbeitung - stammt die Familie des bekannten Schmuckhauses Bulgari, die Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts nach Italien auswanderte und in Rom das erste Bulgari-Schmuckhaus Via Sintina gründete.
