Pader District

Pader is a district in northern Uganda with a population of 325,885 (2002 census). It is a new district, having been carved out of the counties of Aruu and Agago formerly in Kitgum District in December 2001. Most of the population is currently displaced by the insurgency of the Lord's Resistance Army. The seat of district government, Pader Town, is located in the center of the district. The district is bordered by Kitgum to the north, Kotido to the east, Lira to the south, Apac to the southwest and Gulu to the west. Along with Gulu and Kitgum, Pader composes Acholiland, considered to be the historical homeland of the Acholi ethnic group, though other ethnic groups also live in the district.

Pader ist ein Distrikt im nördlichen Uganda. Er hat nach dem Zensus von 2002 293.679 Einwohner auf einer Fläche von 8.282 km². Die Hauptstadt ist das gleichnamige Pader.Am weitesten sind die Sprachen Luo und Swahili verbreitet. Pader ist der jüngste Distrikt Ugandas und wurde am 4. Dezember 2001 vom Distrikt Kitgum abgetrennt. Er besteht aus den zwei Countys Aruu und Agago.Pader gehört mit Kitgum und Gulu zum Acholiland, in dem das Volk der Acholi lebt, und zählt damit zu den Gebieten, die vom Rebellenkampf der Lord’s Resistance Army betroffen sind.

Pader is een district in het noorden van noordelijk Oeganda met een bevolking van 325.885 (de telling van 2002). Het grootste deel van de bevolking is momenteel internationaal verspreid.De zetel van de districtsoverheid, de stad Pader, is gevestigd in het centrum van het district. Het district grenst aan Kitgum in het noorden, Kotido in het oosten, Lira in het zuiden, Apac in het zuidwesten en Gulu in het westen. Samen met Gulu en Kitgum vormt Pader het Acholiland, het gebied van de Acholi in Oeganda.
