La République populaire de Chine (RPC ; 中华人民共和国 ; hanyu pinyin : Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó), communément appelée Chine, est un État d'Asie orientale. Proclamée le  1949, elle est dirigée depuis par le Parti communiste chinois (PCC). C'est un régime autoritaire se réclamant du marxisme-léninisme, bien que son économie soit partiellement libéralisée. Elle est un des cinq membres permanents du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies.

Die Volksrepublik China ( ), meist China genannt, ist mit 1,3 Milliarden Einwohnern das bevölkerungsreichste Land der Erde, der flächengrößte Staat in Ostasien und der viertgrößte der Erde (nach Russland, Kanada und den USA).Der Name China stammt, ebenso wie das lateinische Sina (Sinologie), wahrscheinlich von der Qin-Dynastie. Über mehrere Stationen und Sprachen gelangte die Bezeichnung Qin entlang der Seidenstraße bis nach Europa. Das chinesische Äquivalent zum deutschen Wort China ist Zhongguó , das im Deutschen recht gut mit Reich der Mitte wiedergegeben ist.
