POSIX

POSIX or "Portable Operating System Interface"[1] is the collective name of a family of related standards specified by the IEEE to define the application programming interface (API) for software compatible with variants of the Unix operating system. Originally, the name stood for IEEE Std 1003.1-1988, which as the name suggests, was released in 1988. The family of POSIX standards is formally designated as IEEE 1003 and the international standard name is ISO/IEC 9945. The standards emerged from a project that began near 1985. The term POSIX was suggested by Richard Stallman in response to an IEEE request for a memorable name; before that the standards effort was called IEEE-IX.

POSIX est le nom d'une famille de standards définie depuis 1988 par l'IEEE et formellement désignée IEEE 1003. Ces standards ont émergé d'un projet de standardisation des API des logiciels destinés à fonctionner sur des variantes du système d'exploitation UNIX. Le terme POSIX a été suggéré par Richard Stallman en réponse à la demande de l'IEEE d'un nom facilement mémorisable. C'est un acronyme de Portable Operating System Interface, dont le X exprime l'héritage UNIX de l'Interface de programmation.

POSIX (ang. Portable Operating System Interface) - dosłownie przenośny interfejs systemu operacyjnego.Jego powstanie wiąże się z próbą standaryzacji różnych odmian systemu UNIX. Prace nad POSIX-em rozpoczęto około roku 1985, a kierowało nimi stowarzyszenie IEEE. Dlatego POSIX znany jest również pod nazwą IEEE 1003. Nad dalszym rozwojem standardu sprawuje pieczę The Open Group we współpracy z IEEE i firmami komputerowymi takimi jak: IBM, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, NEC Corporation, Fujitsu, Hitachi. Kolejne edycje standardu wydawane przez The Open Group noszą nazwy Single UNIX Specification, Version x, gdzie x to kolejny numer wersji. Aktualna wersja jest trzecią a pojawiła się w roku 2001. Od roku 2003 jest to norma międzynarodowa ISO/IEC 9945:2003.
