PICT

For the ancient tribe that inhabited what is now Scotland, see the Picts PICT is a graphics file format introduced on the original Apple Macintosh computer as its standard metafile format. It allows the interchange of graphics (both bitmapped and vector), and some limited text support, between Mac applications, and was the native graphics format of the Quickdraw Manager.

The Picts were a confederation of tribes in what later was to become central and northern Scotland from Roman times until the 10th century. They lived to the north of the Forth and Clyde. They were the descendants of the Caledonii and other tribes named by Roman historians or found on the world map of Ptolemy. Pictland, also known as Pictavia, became the Kingdom of Alba during the 10th century and the Picts became the Fir Alban, the men of Scotland.

Es kann Pixel-, Vektor- und Textinformation enthalten. Unter Mac OS X wurde es von PDF abgelöst. Es entspricht Windows Metafile (WMF bzw. EMF) unter Windows.

Pikten (v. lat. picti „die Bemalten“) ist der römische Name für Stämme in Schottland. Der Name wird auf die Sitte, sich mit blauer Farbe zu tätowieren, zurückgeführt. Er kann sich aber nicht auf die bemalten und gravierten Piktensteine beziehen, da diese erst zwischen dem 5. und 9. Jahrhundert entstanden.

Piktowie - nazwa stosowana przez starożytnych Rzymian na określenie grupy plemion zamieszkujących ziemie obecnej Szkocji (na północ od linii Forth-Clyde) w okresie między przybyciem Rzymian do północnej Brytanii (ok. 100 roku n.e.) a połową IX wieku.Wszelkie pisemne przekazy autorstwa samych Piktów zaginęły, pozostała pojedyncza kronika, a raczej lista królów piktyjskich. Istnieją jednak materiały rzymskie, irlandzkie i anglosaskie, które dają nam pewne, choć niewielkie, wyobrażenie na temat historii Piktów. Nazwa Piktowie pochodzi od łacińskiego słowa picti ("malowani") i odzwierciedla fakt, że wojownicy Piktów mieli zwyczaj malować i tatuować ciała. Tradycyjną nazwą spotykaną w Szkocji jest Pechs i obecnie wysuwa się przypuszczenie, że być może nazwa "Pikt" jest zniekształceniem jakiegoś innego słowa, być może nazwy plemienia. Piktowie sami siebie nazywali Cruthini.

I Pitti erano una confederazione di tribù della Scozia centro-settentrionale dal III secolo al X secolo, di incerta origine, forse pre-celtica, che si oppose strenuamente all'invasore romano, e per ben tre volte riuscì a passare il Vallo di Adriano, nel III secolo. Vivevano a nord dei fiumi Forth e Clyde. Discendevano dai Caledoni e altre tribù che noi conosciamo dagli storici romani e dalla mappa di Tolomeo.
