PARENS PATRIAE

Parens patriae is Latin for "father of the people". In law, it refers to the public policy power of the state to usurp the rights of the natural parent, legal guardian or informal carer, and to act as the parent of any child or individual who is in need of protection, such as a child whose parents are unable or unwilling to take care of him or her, or an incapacitated and dependent individual. In U.S. litigation, parens patriae can be invoked by the state to create its standing to sue; the state declares itself to be suing on behalf of its people. For example, the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvement Act of 1976 (15 USC 15(c)), through Section 4C of the Clayton Act, permits state attorneys general to bring parens patriae suits on behalf of those injured by violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act.

Pater familias (z łac. ojciec rodziny) – zwierzchnik familijny w starożytnym Rzymie. Ojcem rodziny mógł być jedynie męski obywatel rzymski, bez względu na wiek. Był nim mężczyzna nie podlegający władzy ojcowskiej innego pater familias. Był on zwierzchnikiem familii.Był osobą sui iuris, miał zdolność prawną i - osiągnąwszy odpowiedni wiek - zdolność do czynności prawnych.Względem osób alieni iuris posiadał szereg uprawnień (prawo życia i śmierci). Nad dziećmi miał władzę patria potestas, nad żoną manus, a nad niewolnikami dominica potestas.

La Patria potestad es el conjunto de derechos que la ley reconoce a los padres sobre las personas y bienes de sus hijos mientras estos son menores de edad o están incapacitados, con el objetivo de permitir el cumplimiento a aquellos de los deberes que tienen de sostenimiento y educación de estos.La reducción del poder de los padres viene establecida por las legislaciones, pues la función de la patria potestad tiene como límite el interés superior de los hijos y su beneficio, quedando en manos de los poderes públicos la posibilidad de que, velando por los intereses del menor, priven de la patria potestad a los progenitores.

Pater Patriae (çoğulu Patres Patriae), Latincede "Vatanın Babası" anlamına gelen ve Roma İmparatorluğu döneminde verilen bir onur ünvanıdır. Ayrıca Parens Patriae şeklinde de kullanılmıştır.Tüm diğer Antik Roma ünvanları gibi Pater Patriae ünvanı da, Roma Senatosunun kararıyla verilmiştir. İlk olarak Marcus Tullius Cicero'ya verilmiştir. İkinci olarak ise Jül Sezar'a verilmiştir. Bunun dışında bu ünvanı sadece Roma İmparatorları'na verilmiştir.
