PARASOL

PARASOL is a French built Earth observing research satellite. It carries an instrument called POLDER which studies the radiative and microphysical properties of clouds and aerosols.PARASOL was launched from Canada’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana on on December 18, 2004 by an Ariane 5 G+. It will fly in formation in the "A Train" with several other satellites (Aqua, CALIPSO, CloudSat and  Aura). These satellites, to be joined later by  NASA’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO) in 2008, will for the first time ever combine a full suite of instruments for observing clouds and aerosols, from passive  radiometers to active lidar and radar sounders.

An umbrella or parasol (sometimes colloquially, brolly, or bumbershoot) is a canopy device designed to protect from precipitation or sunlight. The term parasol usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun, and umbrella refers to a device more suited to protect from rain. Often the difference is the material; a parasol would sometimes not be waterproof. Parasols are often meant to be fixed to one point and often used with patio tables or other outdoor furniture, or on the beach for shelter from the sun. Umbrellas are almost exclusively hand-held portable devices, however parasols can also be hand-held.

Un parapluie est une sorte de toit portatif pliant permettant de se protéger de la pluie. Les parasols et les ombrelles sont construits sur le même principe, mais ne sont pas forcément étanches et ne protègent généralement que du soleil.

Er trägt das Instrument POLDER, das die Strahlungseigenschaften und die mikroskopische Zusammensetzung der Wolken und Schwebeteilchen untersucht.PARASOL startete am 18. Dezember 2004 vom europäischen Weltraumbahnhof in Kourou mit einer Ariane 5 G+. Er ist in der Formation  A-Train mit mehreren anderen Satelliten (Aqua, CALIPSO, CloudSat und Aura) positioniert. Diese Satelliten, die 2008 durch das Orbiting Carbon Observatory (OCO) der NASA ergänzt werden sollen, werden durch den Zusammenschluss von mehreren Instrumenten (unter anderem passive Radiometer sowie aktive LIDAR- und RADAR-Systeme) erstmals eine umfassende Untersuchung der Wolken und Aerosole ermöglichen.

Als alltäglicher Gebrauchsgegenstand ist ein Regenschirm (selten auch frz. Parapluie genannt) ein Schirm aus einer Plane aus Stoff oder heute meist Nylon und Polyamid, die auf Kiele gespannt ist und an einem langen lotrecht aufgesetzten Stiel in die Höhe gehalten wird. Zum Halten besitzt der Regenschirm einen Griff, meist in Form eines gebogenen Spazierstock-Griffes oder eines Knaufs. So schützt der (tragbare) Regenschirm vor Niederschlägen.

Parasol – przedmiot chroniący przed  deszczem, słońcem lub śniegiem. Składa się z dwóch części: rączki oraz usztywnionego, najczęściej upodobnionego do okręgu, kawałka materiału. Pierwsze parasole były używane w starożytnym Egipcie około cztery tysiące lat temu. W Chinach ok. 400 r.n.e. parasole wykonywane były z natłuszczonego papieru.
