P-Funk (also spelled P Funk or P. Funk) is a shorthand term for the repertoire and performers associated with George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic collective and the distinctive style of funk music they performed. The P-Funk groups had their heyday in the 1970s and continue to attract new fans thanks both to the legacy of samples they bequeathed to hip hop and the live shows that the bands continue to perform.

P-Funk (kurz für Pure & uncut-Funk) ist eine Spielart der Musikrichtung Funk, die sich Ende der Sechziger Jahre in den USA zunächst als Mischung aus psychedelischer Rockmusik, Soul und Funk entwickelte. Die Hauptpersonen stellten George Clinton und Bootsy Collins mit den von ihnen produzierten Bandprojekten Parliament, Funkadelic, Parlet und Brides of Funkenstein dar.

P-Funk est le nom abrégé de deux groupes : Parliament et Funkadelic. À l'origine, « P-Funk » était simplement une abréviation pour désigner les deux groupes de George Clinton Parliament, et Funkadelic dont les membres étaient communs. Il est souvent fait référence à ces groupes sous le nom « Parliament-Funkadelic ».

Parliament podobnie jak jej bliźniacza grupa Funkadelic zawiązane zostały w 1968 i istniały do 1981. Obie były jedynymi w historii gatunku big bandami. W niektórych okresach ich istnienia liczba muzyków w nich uczestniczących dochodziła do kilkudziesięciu. Obie grupy, poza nielicznymi wyjątkami posiadały ten sam personel, dla tego często traktowane jako jeden zespół Parliament-Funkadelic i jako taki została w 1997 wprowadzona do Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ze względu jednak na spore różnice stylistyczne w muzyce obu zespołów należy traktować je oddzielnie.

Funk è un termine coniato negli Stati Uniti negli anni cinquanta, per indicare delle caratteristiche ritmiche e sonore presenti in diversi ambiti musicali. Inizialmente il termine fu usato nel jazz per indicare un approccio musicale rude e libero da sofisticazioni, legato al blues, con riff ripetitivi e con un ritmo incalzante. In seguito l' aggettivo funky fu utilizzato sempre più anche in altri ambiti musicali come il soul ed il R&B.
