Oxonium (auch Oxidanium) ist die Bezeichnung für protoniertes Wasser (H3O+) und gehört nach IUPAC zu den Wasserstoffionen. Die Bezeichnungen Hydroxonium oder Hydronium sind veraltet und sollten nach den Empfehlungen der chemischen Nomenklatur nicht mehr verwendet werden, sind aber in der Literatur noch weit verbreitet.

Een oxoniumion is de verzamelnaam voor elk ion dat een trivalent (en dus positief geladen) zuurstofatoom bevat. De algemene formule van het oxoniumion is R3O+. Het meest eenvoudige en meest voorkomende oxoniumion is het hydroxonium-ion (H3O+).Andere oxoniumionen ontstaan bijvoorbeeld bij protonering van alcoholen, ketonen of ethers. Deze alkyloxoniumionen zijn in het algemeen niet stabiel en zeer reactief. Het zijn sterke Lewis-zuren en zijn vaak een tussenproduct in organische reacties (bijvoorbeeld E2 eliminaties).
