Owen was voted seventh in the 1998 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball. He is fast, skillful and an authentic "killer" of goalkeepers. Arguably one of the most exciting young players to emerge in recent seasons, Owen burst onto the international scene with a truly stunning goal in England’s 1998 World Cup defeat by Argentina. He had previously became the youngest player to play for England this century. He scored 30 goals in his first league season with Liverpool FC, and managed 23 the next season, despite missing the final month with a hamstring injury. He has been dogged by hamstring problems since. After a wonderful start to his career, these doubts over his fitness have raised hitherto unimaginable doubts about what had seemed a golden future. His chief asset is his blinding pace, which is allied to dribbling skills and deadly finishing ability and an immense desire to win. He became the youngest player to score for England in a match against Morocco in 1998, and he scored twice in the 1998 World Cup finals.
