Oviedo (Asturian: Uvieu) is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. It is also the name of the municipality that contains the city.Oviedo is the capital of the Principality of Asturias and is the administrative and commercial centre of the region. The city also hosts the annual Prince of Asturias Awards, a prestigious event that recognizes international achievement in eight distinct categories held in the city's Campoamor Theatre. Award winners in 2007 include Bob Dylan in the category of Arts and Al Gore in the category of International Cooperation. The Oviedo University's International Campus attracts many foreign scholars from all over the globe.

Oviedo to miasto w północnej Hiszpanii, na przedgórzu Gór Kantabryjskich, będące stolicą współczesnej prowincji Asturia. Liczy ok. 215 371 mieszkańców.W katedrze w Oviedo zbudowanej w XIV wieku znajduje się krzyż niesiony w bitwie pod Covadongą (722) przez pierwszego króla Asturii Pelagiusza. Była to pierwsza bitwa rekonkwisty. Obecnie Oviedo jest ośrodkiem hutnictwa, a produkuje się tu również szkło, chemikalia i naczynia.
