For other uses, see Ovid (disambiguation) Publius Ovidius Naso (March 20, 43 BC – 17 AD) was a Roman poet known to the English-speaking world as Ovid who wrote on topics of love, abandoned women and mythological transformations. Ranked alongside Virgil and Horace as one of the three ical poets of Latin literature, Ovid was generally considered the greatest master of the elegiac couplet. His poetry, much imitated during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, had a decisive influence on European art and literature for centuries.

Ovide, en latin Publius Ovidius Naso. : Son surnom (Naso) lui vient de son nez proéminent (tout comme Cicéron, dont le surnom signifie pois chiche, qu'il devait à la verrue d'un de ses ancêtres). Né le 20 mars 43 av. J.-C. à Sulmona, dans le sud de l'Italie — mort en 17 ap. J.-C., en exil à Tomes (l'actuelle Constanta en Roumanie), c'est un poète latin qui vécut durant la période qui vit la naissance de l'Empire romain. Il naît un an après l'assassinat de Jules César, est adolescent lorsqu'Auguste s'empare du pouvoir pour transformer la République en Empire, et meurt trois ans après ce premier empereur.

Publius Ovidius Naso (ur. 20 marca 43 p.n.e. w Sulmo; zm. ok. 17 n.e. w Tomis (współczesna Konstanca) - starożytny poeta rzymski, jeden z najbardziej znanych poetów epoki augustowskiej. Studiował retorykę, ale zrezygnował z kariery urzędnika, by poświęcić się poezji, w której to dziedzinie szybko zdobył sławę utalentowanego twórcy. Przyjaciel Horacego.
