European Anti-fraud Office
The European Anti-fraud Office (commonly known as OLAF, from ) is charged by the European Union with protecting the financial interests of the European Union: Its tasks are to fight fraud affecting the EU budget, as well as corruption and any other irregular activity, including misconduct, within the European Institutions, in an accountable, transparent and cost-effective manner. The Anti-fraud Office achieves its mission by conducting, in full independence, internal and external investigations. It also organises close and regular co-operation between the competent authorities of the Member States in order to co-ordinate their activities. OLAF supplies Member States with the necessary support and technical know-how to help them in their anti-fraud activities. It contributes to the design of the anti-fraud strategy of the European Union and takes the necessary initiatives to strengthen the relevant legislation.

Olaf
Europäisches Amt für Betrugsbekämpfung
Das Europäische Amt für Betrugsbekämpfung, kurz OLAF nach der französischen Bezeichnung Office Européen de Lutte Anti-Fraude, ist ein Amt der Europäischen Kommission mit Sitz in Brüssel. Seine Aufgabe ist die Bekämpfung von Betrug, Korruption und allen anderen rechtswidrigen Handlungen, durch welche die finanziellen Interessen der EU geschädigt werden. Das Amt ermittelt inner- und außerhalb der europäischen Behörden; es unterstützt, koordiniert und beobachtet die Arbeit nationaler Behörden in seinem Aufgabenbereich und konzipiert die Betrugsbekämpfung der Europäischen Union. Es ist dem Kommissar für Verwaltung, Audit und Betrugsbekämpfung zugeordnet.

Europeiska byrån för bedrägeribekämpning (förkortas OLAF, av det franska namnet, Office Européen de Lutte Anti-Fraude) är en byrå underställd Europeiska kommissionen med uppdrag att bekämpa bedrägerier, korruption och andra oegentligheter, till exempel tjänstefel som begås inom Europeiska unionens institutioner.

OLAF – Urząd ds. Zwalczania Korupcji (fr. Office Européen de Lutte Anti-Fraude), urząd utworzony przez Radę Unii Europejskiej 1 czerwca 1999 r.. Ma na celu zwalczanie korupcji, nadużyć budżetu Unii oraz przemytu papierosów i alkoholu. Urząd posiada kompetencje nadzoru podatkowego, działa zarówno wewnątrz struktur unijnych, jak i w państwach członkowskich, jednak działania podejmuje jedynie w razie otrzymania zgłoszenia od któregoś z państw.

Olaf - imię męskie pochodzenia skandynawskiego. Pierwotna forma Aslaf. Wywodzi się od słów As (bóg - zobacz Asowie) i laf (słowo, które przeszło w ang. love), czyli "umiłowany przez bogów", Bogumił. Inna wersja etymologii głosi, że imię oznacza "syn starego człowieka".

OLAF
OLAF (acronimo francese che sta per Office européen de Lutte Anti-Fraude) è l'Ufficio europeo per la Lotta Antifrode.
È stato istituito dalla Commissione Europea con Decisione n. 352 del 28 aprile 1999, con l'obiettivo di contrastare le frodi, la corruzione e qualsiasi attività illecita lesiva degli interessi finanziari della Comunità europea. Franz-Hermann Brüner è il direttore dell'OLAF dal 1 marzo 2000.
Il bilancio comunitario è finanziato dai cittadini degli Stati membri attraverso le risorse proprie al fine di realizzare progetti di interesse generale. Pertanto, l'evasione dei dazi e delle imposte che alimentano il bilancio comunitario o l'utilizzazione impropria di sussidi comunitari costituiscono un danno per il contribuente europeo.
