Founded in 1918, OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, S.A., has dedicated ever since to the maintenance of aircraft and aircraft engines, as well as to the manufacturing of aircraft components and to aircraft engineering and logistic support. OGMA is situated in Alverca, approximately 15 km north of Lisbon, and employs a workforce of 1,520 and provides a 3km H24 runaway. The abbreviation OGMA originally stood for "Oficinas Gerais de Material Aeronáutico", which changed to "Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal" in 1994.

Ogma (modern spelling: Oghma) is a character from Irish mythology and Scottish mythology. A member of the Tuatha Dé Danann, he is often considered a deity and may be related to the Gallic god Ogmios.

In der Irischen Mythologie war Ogma der Recke und Vorkämpfer der Tuatha de Danaan und erschien als riesiger schwarzhäutiger Mann. Er galt als Herr der Sprache und Erfinder der Ogham-Schrift, einer der ersten Schriften der Iren. Sie bestand nur aus Strichen und Punkten und wird seit dem vierten Jahrhundert benutzt. Über 400 alte Schriften mit diesem System blieben erhalten, was im Vergleich zu den in den Sagen erwähnten Bibliotheken ein kleiner Teil ist. Ogma soll diese Schrift beim Beobachten der Kraniche erfunden haben, welche als Hüter dieser Schrift galten. Er wird im Lebor Gabala Eirenn als Sohn des Elatha und der Eithne und als der Bruder des Dagda bezeichnet. Mit seiner Mutter Eithne zeugte er seinen Sohn Tuirenn Briccriu. In einigen Sagen wird er mit Cermait gleichgesetzt. Sein Beiname war "Grianainech" (Der Sonnenverbrannte).

Dans la mythologie celtique, le dieu Ogma est connu sous de nombreuses variantes orthographiques : Ogm, Ogme, Ogmios, Ogmius. Un h est parfois accolé au g montrant qu’il est quasiment inaudible en irlandais.
