That portion of airspace between the U.S 12-mile limit and the Oceanic Control Area/Flight Information Region (CTA/FIR) boundary within which air traffic control is exercised. These areas are established to permit the application of domestic procedures in the provision of air traffic control services. Offshore Control Area is generally synonymous with Federal Aviation Regulations, Part 71, Subpart E, "Control Areas and Control Area Extensions."
