Odysseus plays a key role in Homer's Iliad. King of Ithaca, husband of Penelope, father of Telemachus, and son of Laërtes and Anticlea (although there was a tradition that Sisyphus was his true father), Odysseus is renowned for his guile and resourcefulness (known by the epithet Odysseus the Cunning, and said to be third to only Zeus and Athena in wisdom (see mētis, or "cunning intelligence"), and is most famous for the ten eventful years it took him to return home after the Trojan War.

Ulysse (en grec ancien  / Odusseús, en latin Ulixes, puis par déformation Ulysses) est un des héros les plus célèbres de la mythologie grecque. Fils de Laërte et d'Anticlée, il est marié à Pénélope dont il a un fils, Télémaque. Il est célèbre pour sa métis (« intelligence rusée »), qui rend son conseil très apprécié dans la guerre de Troie à laquelle il participe. C'est encore par la métis qu'il se distingue dans le long périple qu'il connaît au retour de Troie, chanté par Homère dans son Odyssée.

Odysseus (griech. , lat. , etruskisch  ) ist ein Held der griechischen Mythologie, dessen Taten vor Troja von Homer bereits in der Ilias, dessen Heimreise und 10-jährige Irrfahrt vor allem aber in seiner Odyssee geschildert werden. Er ist der Sohn des Laërtes (in weniger verbreiteten Versionen des Sisyphos) und der Antikleia. Mit seiner Gemahlin, der spartanischen Königstochter Penelope, hat er einen Sohn namens Telemachos, außerdem war er durch Kirke der Vater des Telegonos.

Odyseusz (Odys, Ulisses; gr.  Odysseus; łac. Ulixes) - bohater Odysei Homera. Legendarny król Itaki, syn herosa Laertesa i jego małżonki Antyklei. Według mitu był najprzebieglejszym z królów biorących udział w Wojnie Trojańskiej, autorem podstępu, dzięki któremu Grecy wygrali wojnę – konia trojańskiego. W podróży powrotnej do Itaki przeżył wiele przygód. Tułał się przez 10 lat po morzach i oceanach, zanim wrócił do swej żony Penelopy. Obok Heraklesa i Tezeusza jest najbardziej znanym bohaterem greckich mitów i legend. Synem Odyseusza był Telemach.

Ulisse (o Odisseo, dal greco Ὀδυσσεύς, Odysseus) è un personaggio letterario. Originario di Itaca, è uno degli eroi achei descritti e narrati da Omero nell'Iliade e nell'Odissea, celeberrima opera letteraria che dal suo protagonista prende il nome.Al contrario di Achille, personaggio principale dell'Iliade, che agisce dominato dagli istinti primordiali (l'Ira in particolare), Ulisse invece (uomo dal multiforme ingegno) ricorre sovente a stratagemmi e ai suoi molteplici talenti (è in grado di costruirsi una barca sull'isola di Calipso o di fare il cantastorie presso i Feaci, ad esempio).
