October Crisis
The October Crisis was a series of dramatic events triggered by two terrorist kidnappings of government officials by members of the Front de libération du Québec in the province of QuebecCanada, in October 1970, which ultimately resulted in a brief invocation of the War Measures Act by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and the deployment of the national army in Quebec and in the national capital Ottawa.

En octobre 1970, le Québec connaît la plus grande crise politique de son histoire moderne : la Crise d'octobre. Un groupe armé, le Front de libération du Québec (FLQ), enlève l’attaché commercial de Grande-BretagneJames Richard Cross le , et le ministre du Travail québécois, Pierre Laporte, 5 jours plus tard. La Loi des mesures de guerre est invoquée par le premier ministre du CanadaPierre Elliott Trudeau. Les libertés individuelles sont suspendues, des centaines de militants indépendantistes sont arrêtés et envoyés en prison sans mandat et sans être accusés de quoi que ce soit. James Cross s’en tire sain et sauf, mais Pierre Laporte est retrouvé mort à Saint-Hubert dans le coffre d’une voiture.

OCTOBER CRISIS
On October 5, 1970 the Front De Liberation Du Quebec (FLQ) kidnapped James Cross, the British Trade Commission in Montreal and on October 10, Pierre Laporte Minister of Labour in the government of Quebec. The federal government, led by Pierre Trudeau, invoked the War Measures Act and armed soldiers entered the province of Quebec. Laporte was murdered the next day. Over 450 persons were detained in Quebec, few of whom were charged. Cross was released in exchange for safe passage to Cuba for the kidnappers. The government's handling of the kidnapping and subsequent events were extremely controversial
