Océanides

In Greek and Roman mythology, the Oceanids were the three thousand daughters of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. One of these many daughters was also said to have been the wife of the god Poseidon, typically named as Amphitrite. Each of these nymphs was the patroness of a particular spring, river, ocean, lake, pond, pasture, flower or cloud. Oceanus and Tethys also had 3000 sons, the river-gods (Potamoi). Whereas most sources limit the term Oceanids or Oceaniades to the daughters, others include both the sons and daughters under this term.

Dans la mythologie grecque, les Océanides sont des nymphes des eaux. Selon Hésiode, au nombre de trois mille, elles sont les filles d'Océan et de Téthys, sœurs des dieux fleuves (également trois mille). Chacune était la gardienne d'un fleuve, d'un lac, bref d'un point d'eau particulier (cela concernait aussi les eaux du monde souterrain, voir par exemple Styx). Une autre de leur prérogatives divines consistait à veiller sur l'enfance des jeunes garçons, fonction reçues de la main de Zeus et qu'elles exerçaient en compagnie de leurs frères, les trois mille dieux fleuves, et d'Apollon (Théogonie, 346 à 349).

Die Okeaniden sind in der griechischen Mythologie die Töchter des Okeanos und der Tethys. Sie sind Nymphen, die über die Meere herrschen, mit Ausnahme des Mittelmeeres, das den Nereiden gehört.Etwas weiter gefasst sind die Okeaniden die Gesamtheit der Söhne und Töchter des Okeanos und der Tethys. Laut Hesiods Theogonie gibt es 3.000 Töchter (Verse 355 ff.: Diese von Tethys zugleich und Okeanos stammenden Töchter / Sind durch Alter erhöht; auch gibts noch viele der andern. / Denn drei Tausende sind leichtfüßiger Okeaninen.). Die folgenden Verse 360 f.: Eben so viel auch sind dumpfrauschender Ströme noch übrig, / Sie, des Okeanos Söhn', und der ehrfurchtwürdigen Tethys) lassen sich so interpretieren, dass es auch 3.000 Söhne gab. Jedem Gewässer ist ein bestimmter Okeanid zugeordnet.
