The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The principal aim of the organization, according to its Statute, is the determination of the best means for safeguarding their interests, individually and collectively; devising ways and means of ensuring the stabilization of prices in international oil markets with a view to eliminating harmful and unnecessary fluctuations; giving due regard at all times to the interests of the producing nations and to the necessity of securing a steady income to the producing countries; an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consuming nations, and a fair return on their capital to those investing in the petroleum industry."

L'Organisation des pays exportateurs de pétrole (OPEP) ou en anglais Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) est une organisation intergouvernementale (un cartel) de pays visant à négocier avec les sociétés pétrolières pour tout ce qui touche à la production de pétrole, son prix et les futurs droits de concessions.

Die Organisation Erdöl exportierender Länder, kurz OPEC (von engl. Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) ist eine im Zeitraum vom 10. bis 14. September 1960 in Bagdad gegründete internationale Organisation.Seit 1965 hat das Kartell seinen Sitz in Wien. Die ursprünglichen Mitglieder waren Irak, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi-Arabien und Venezuela. Später schlossen sich weitere sechs Staaten an: Katar (1961), Indonesien (1962), Libyen (1962), die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate (1967), Algerien (1969) und Nigeria (1971). Ecuador war von 1973 bis 1992 Mitglied und Gabun von 1975 bis 1992. Am 17. November 2007 kehrte Ecuador nach 15-jähriger Pause in die Organisation zurück.

L'Organizzazione dei Paesi Esportatori di Petrolio meglio conosciuta come OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries), fondata nel 1960, comprende attualmente dodici paesi che si sono associati, formando un cartello economico, per negoziare con le compagnie petrolifere aspetti relativi alla produzione di petrolio, prezzi e concessioni. La sede dell'OPEC, inizialmente stabilita a Ginevra, a partire dal 1° settembre 1965 è stata trasferita a Vienna.
