De Oceanic was het eerste stoomschip van de Oceanic Steam Navigation Company of de White Star Line. Het schip luidde een geheel nieuwe trend in in de transatlantische scheepvaart. Het was 3707 brt groot en zeer luxueus. Het schip had 4 masten en een stoommachine.

RMS Oceanic var White Star Lines första linjefartyg. Hon byggdes av Harland and Wolff i Belfast och sjösattes 27 augusti 1870. På hennes jungfrufärd, den 2 mars 1871, åkte endast 64 personer med. Kaptenen var Sir Digby Murray.
