Numidians

The Numidians were semi-nomadic Berber tribes who lived in Numidia, in Algeria east of Constantine and in part of Tunisia and Morocco. The Numidians were one of the earliest natives to trade with the settlers of Carthage. As Carthage grew the relationship with the Numidians blossomed. Carthage's military used the Numidian cavalry as mercenaries. The Numidian cavalry played a key role in assisting Hannibal during the Second Punic War.

Les Numides sont le peuple autochtone du royaume appelé Numidie qui se trouvait dans l'actuelle Algérie débordant à l'ouest de la Tunisie et l'est du Maroc. Les anciens Numides avaient pour capitale Cirta (l'actuelle Constantine). Berbères sédentaires ou semi-nomades, les Numides étaient répartis en différentes tribus. Les tribus de la partie orientale de la Numidie portaient le nom de Massyles (de Mis Ilès, Ilès étant l'arrière-grand-père de Massinissa) et celles de la partie occidentale celui de Massaesyles.

נומידים הם עם של נוודים למחצה השייך לקבוצת העמים הברברים. מקורם מהחלק המערבי של אפריקה הצפונית בחבל ארץ שנקרא בימי קדם על שמם - נומידיה. נומידיה העתיקה נמצאת בעיקר בשטחה של אלג'יריה המודרנית, מזרחית לקונסטנטין, אך גם בחלקים של תוניסיה וממרוקו. בעת העתיקה ייסוד ממלכה שהייתה נתונה להשפעת קרתגית גדולה עד תבוסתה של האחרונה במלחמה הפונית השנייה.נודעו כפרשים קלים מעולים.
