Null
Die Null (0) ist die einzige reelle Zahl, die weder positiv noch negativ ist. Bezüglich der Addition ist sie das neutrale Element. Weil die Zahl Null die Mächtigkeit der leeren Menge ist, wird sie je nach Definition auch zu den natürlichen Zahlen gezählt. Als ganze Zahl ist null Nachfolger von minus eins und Vorgänger von eins. Null ist gerade.

Nullwert
Als Nullwert (kurz NULL, NIL oder ()) bezeichnet man in der Informatik einen Zustand, der das Fehlen eines Wertes anzeigen soll. Nach Edgar F. Codd unterscheidet man zwei Arten von NULL: die Abwesenheit eines Wertes, weil keiner existiert, oder die Abwesenheit, da man den Wert (noch) nicht kennt. Ein Nullwert steht für die Abwesenheit eines Wertes, ein Nullwert ist aber gleichzeitig ein Wert.

NULL
NULL est une valeur particulière présente dans de nombreux langages informatiques. Elle signifie qu'un pointeur n'a pas de cible ou qu'une variable n'a pas de valeur. La notion de valeur ou de pointeur NULL est en particulier présente dans les langages C et C++ (ainsi que dans plusieurs langages dont la syntaxe est proche comme le JavaScript ou le ).

Null används i programspråk som C/C++, Java och C# för att markera att en pekare har ett ogiltigt värde. Om en sådan pekare sedan av misstag används fångas det upp av systemet och ger inte sällan ett felmeddelande i någon form.

Zmienna wskaznikowa
W językach programowania niższych poziomów (jak np. Asembler, C, C++, Cyclone) pamięć jest reprezentowana jako jednowymiarowa tablica bajtów - wszystkie zmienne (statyczne i dynamiczne) są umieszczane w tej "tablicy".
Wskaźnik jest indeksem do tej tablicy -- najczęściej ów indeks jest jednocześnie logicznym adresem. Zwykle istnieje też specjalny symbol, który określa wskazanie jako puste. W językach C, C++, Cyclone jest to NULL, w Pascalu nil. Wskaźnik taki nie wskazuje na nic (konkretnie: jego wartość liczbowa jako adresu jest równa 0), gdyż w nowoczesnych systemach operacyjnych żaden proces nie ma dostępu do komórki pamięci o adresie 0, stąd też jest ona wykorzystywana do oznaczenia wskazania do niczego. Wartość ta służy np. do oznaczania końca listy jednokierunkowej, liści drzewa binarnego, itp.
