Northern Europe

Northern Europe is a term for the northern part of Europe, though its precise boundaries are vague and defined variously. It is a term that groups the Nordic countries (which are present in all definitions):Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, as well as Åland, the Faroe Islands, Jan Mayen and Svalbard. (Though politically and historically closely tied to Northern Europe, the Nordic territory of Greenland is nevertheless geographically closer to the continent of North America.) along with a selection of the following which varies from definition to definition:The Baltic states: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.The British Isles: Ireland, Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man (see also Western Europe).Areas bordering, or in close proximity to, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, i.e. north-western Russia (including Kaliningrad), northern Poland, northern Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the French region of Nord-Pas de Calais.Occasionally Ingria, Karelia and the Kola Peninsula (see also Eastern Europe).

Nordeuropa ist ein zusammenfassender Begriff für alle nördlich gelegenen Länder Europas. Dazu werden Island, Norwegen, Schweden, Dänemark und Finnland, oft auch die baltischen Staaten Estland, Lettland und Litauen, der Norden des europäischen Russlands und der nördliche Teil Großbritanniens gezählt. Im weitesten Sinne können auch Irland, Französischgebiete nördlich von der Seine, der Norden Belgiens, die Niederlande und die Küstengebiete Norddeutschlands und Polens als Teil Nordeuropas gesehen werden. Umgangssprachlich sind in Deutschland mit dem Begriff "Nordeuropa" meistens die Nordischen Länder gemeint.

Noord-Europa is de naam voor het noordelijke deel van het Europese continent. In verschillende tijden is dit gebied verschillend gedefinieerd, maar tegenwoordig worden meestal de volgende landen tot Noord-Europa gerekend:DenemarkenEstlandFinlandIJslandLetlandLitouwenNoorwegenZwedenIn vroegere tijden, toen Europa door het Mediterrane gebied werd overheerst, werd alles ver van de Middellandse Zee Noord-Europa genoemd, met inbegrip van Duitsland, een groot deel van Frankrijk, Nederland, België, Luxemburg en Oostenrijk. Deze betekenis wordt tegenwoordig soms nog gebruikt in sommige contexten, zoals in besprekingen van de Noordelijke Renaissance. In de context van de Europese Unie worden Denemarken, Zweden, Finland, Duitsland, België en Nederland vaak gezien als deel van de Noordelijke groep.
