North Germanic languages

The North Germanic languages make up one of the three branches of the Germanic languages, a sub-family of the Indo-European languages, along with the West Germanic languages  and the East Germanic languages. Derived from Proto-Norse and Old Norse, they are spoken in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and (to some extent) Greenland, as well as by a significant Swedish minority in Finland and by immigrant groups mainly in North America and Australia. The language group is often called either Scandinavian or, today, less frequently in the English language, Nordic languages. The latter term is a direct translation from "nordiska språk", most commonly used by both scholars and laymen in the Nordic countries and is often favored by these when writing in English.

Die skandinavischen Sprachen, auch nordgermanische Sprachen genannt, stellen eine Untergruppe der germanischen Sprachen dar, die die Sprachen Dänisch, Färöisch, Isländisch, Norwegisch und Schwedisch umfasst. Ungefähr 20 Millionen Menschen sprechen eine skandinavische Sprache als Muttersprache. Das durch die Edda überlieferte Altisländisch gilt als Urtypus der skandinavischen Sprachen, die älteste überlieferte skandinavische Sprache ist aber das Urnordische.

Języki skandynawskie (języki nordyckie, północnogermańskie) - północna grupa języków germańskich, którymi posługuje się blisko 18 mln mówiących, zamieszkujących Europę Północną, konkretnie kraje nordyckie.Zespół języków skandynawskich jest jednym z trzech głównych zespołów języków germańskich, obok wschodnio- i zachodniogermańskich. W okresie między 400 p.n.e. a 100 p.n.e. doszło do rozróżnienia dwóch podstawowych gałęzi: wschodnionordyckiej (później duński i szwedzki) i zachodnionordyckej (później norweski, farerski i islandzki). Znaczące zróżnicowanie w ramach dialektów skandynawskich nastąpiło około 800 r. n.e.

De Noord-Germaanse of Scandinavische talen zijn het Deens, het Noors (Bokmål en Nynorsk), het Zweeds, het IJslands en het Faeröers.De Noord-Germaanse talen zijn nauwer verwant met de Oost-Germaanse dan met de West-Germaanse. Het Noord-Germaans is gekend door runeninscripties vanaf de 3e eeuw na Chr. Er is een literaire taal vanaf de 9e eeuw.De vasteland-Scandinavische talen (Noors, Deens en Zweeds) zijn tot op zekere hoogte onderling verstaanbaar.
