Nilo-Saharan languages

The Nilo-Saharan languages are a group of African languages spoken mainly in the upper parts of the Chari and Nile rivers (whence the term "Nilo-"), including historic Nubia, north of where the two tributaries of Nile meet. Its member languages extend, however, through 17 nations in the northern half of Africa: from Algeria and Mali in the northwest; to Benin, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the south; and Egypt to Tanzania in the east (excluding Somalia). The largest part of its major subfamilies are found in the modern nation of Sudan, through which the Nile River flows in all its incarnations: the White and Blue Nile, which join to form the main Nile at Khartoum. As seen in the hyphenated name (compare map at right), Nilo-Saharan is primarily a family of the African interior, including the greater Nile basin and its tributaries as well as the central Sahara desert.

Les langues nilo-sahariennes forment un groupe de langues parlées en Afrique subsaharienne, dans les régions du Haut-Nil et du Haut-Chari dont la Nubie. D'après les estimations de 1987 de Merritt Ruhlen, les langues nilo-sahariennes sont parlées par environ 11 millions de personnes. Cette famille est très hétérogène (beaucoup plus que le groupe pourtant voisin des langues nigéro-congolaises) et plutôt sujette à controverse. Peu de linguistes se sont essayés à travailler sur l'ensemble de la famille, et un certain nombre rejettent cette classification. Un sujet particulièrement problématique est le rattachement de la branche songhaï à cette famille.

Die nilo-saharanischen Sprachen (auch kurz Nilosaharanisch genannt) bilden eine afrikanische Sprachfamilie mit etwa 200 Sprachen und insgesamt ca. 35 Mio. Sprechern. Sie werden vor allem in den oberen Flussläufen des Schari (Chari) und des Nils einschließlich des geschichtlichen Nubiens gesprochen. Ihre Verbreitung erstreckt sich über 17 Staaten Nordafrikas: Algerien und Mali im Nordwesten; Benin, Nigeria, Sudan und DR Kongo im Süden sowie von Ägypten bis nach Kenia und Tansania (ohne Somalia) im Osten. Der größte Teil ihres bedeutendsten Zweigs findet sich im heutigen Sudan. Wie aus der mit Bindestrich versehenen Bezeichnung hervorgeht, ist Nilosaharanisch eine Sprachfamilie, die zuvörderst im afrikanischen Binnenland, einschließlich des größeren Nilbeckens und seiner Seitenflüsse wie auch in der Zentralsaharanischen Wüste verbreitet ist.

Języki nilo-saharyskie – grupa języków używanych przez około 11 milionów ludzi w Afryce, głównie na terytorium Czadu i w górnym dorzeczu Nilu, a także w Sudanie na terenach historycznej Nubii.Języki nilo-saharyjskie stanowią luźną grupę silnie zróżnicowanych języków. Niektórzy językoznawcy kwestionują ich przynależność do jednej rodziny, uważając je za ligę językową, rozwiniętą w paleolicie z drobnych prajęzyków regionu. Najczęściej języki nilo-saharyjskie dzieli się na sześć podrodzin: songhaj, konam, maba, saharyjską, wschodniosudańską, środkowosudańską oraz izolowane języki fur, berta i kunama, przy czym przynależność używanych w oddalonym terenie dorzecza Nigru języków songhaj budzi najwięcej kontrowersji. Rodzinę wschodnio-i środkowosudańską do niedawna zaliczano wraz z językami berta i kunama do wspólnej grupy szari-nilockiej.

De Nilo-Saharaanse talen vormen één van de vier Afrikaanse taalfamilies. Ze worden gesproken in Soedan, Ethiopië, Oeganda, Kenia, en het noorden van Tanzania. De naam van de familie is afgeleid van het feit dat het taalgebied een grote delen van de Sahara en van het stroomgebied van de Nijl omspant.De taalfamilie is divers en taalkundigen zijn het nog niet eens over de precieze interne classificatie van de subfamilies. Een belangrijk onderscheid is echter in ieder geval dat tussen de Saharaanse talen (bijvoorbeeld Kanuri) en de Nilotische talen (waartoe talen als Maa (Masaï) en Dinka behoren).
