New Mexico

The State of New Mexico is a state in the southwestern region of the United States of America. Over its relatively long history it has also been occupied by Native American populations and has been part of the Imperial Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain, part of Mexico, and a U.S. territory. Among U.S. states, New Mexico has simultaneously the highest percentage of Hispanic Americans (comprised of both recent immigrants and descendants of Spanish colonists) and the second-highest percentage of Native Americans after Alaska (mostly Navajo and Pueblo peoples). As a result, the demographics and culture of the state are unique for their strong Spanish, Mexican, and American Indian cultural influences. The climate of the state is highly arid and its territory is mostly covered by mountains and desert. At a population density of 15 per square mile, New Mexico is the sixth most sparsely inhabited U.S. State.

Le Nouveau-Mexique est un État du sud-ouest des États-Unis, bordé à l'ouest par l'Arizona, au nord par le Colorado, à l'est par le Texas et au sud par le Mexique. L'un des quatre États des Four Corners, le Nouveau-Mexique possède une superficie de 314 926 km² et est peuplé de 1 819 046 habitants (2000). Sa forme est proche d'un carré de 650 km de côté. New Mexico [] (dt. Neumexiko, span. Nuevo México) ist ein Bundesstaat im Südwesten der Vereinigten Staaten. Der Name stammt von den spanischen Eroberern, die damit das Land westlich und nördlich des Rio Grande bezeichneten. New Mexico (abgekürzt NM) wird auch Land der Verzauberung (Land of Enchantment/Tierra de Encanto) genannt.

Il Nuovo Messico è uno stato federale del sud ovest degli Stati Uniti; è definito anche lo stato spagnolo, anche perché lo spagnolo è appunto la lingua ufficiale dello stato (oltre che la più parlata), accanto all'inglese. Nuevo México era il nome spagnolo per i territori a nord e ovest del Río Grande.
