New England
region in the northeast United States (comprised of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island)
New England
New England is a region of the
United States located in the northeastern corner of the country, consisting of the
states of
Maine,
New Hampshire,
Vermont,
Massachusetts,
Rhode Island, and
Connecticut.
Plymouth was the second successful
English settlement in the
New World, founded by
Pilgrims fleeing
religious persecution in
Europe in 1620. In the late 18th century, the New England colonies would become the first of the
North American British colonies to demonstrate ambitions of
independence from the
British Crown, although the region, as a whole, would later oppose the
War of 1812 between the United States and
Britain.
