The New Zealand Defence Force (Maori: Te Ope Kaatua o Aotearoa, "Line of Defence of New Zealand") consists of three services: the Royal New Zealand Navy; the New Zealand Army; and the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The Commander-in-Chief of the NZDF is His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sir Jerry Mateparae, Governor-General of New Zealand who exercises his power on the advice of the Minister of Defence, Hon Dr Jonathan Coleman, under the Defence Act 1990. The commander and head of the NZDF is the Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Lieutenant-General Rhys Jones, who also acts as the primary military adviser to the Minister of Defence.

Der Name New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF, zu dt.: „Neuseeländische Verteidigungsstreitkraft“), der im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Ländern im Singular gehalten ist, bezeichnet die Gesamtheit der drei neuseeländischen Streitkräfte. Die NZDF wurden in ihrer jetzigen Form 1990 gegründet und bestehen aus den Teilstreitkräfte New Zealand Army, Royal New Zealand Navy und Royal New Zealand Air Force.

La New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF, en maori Te Ope Kaatua o Aotearoa) se compose de trois branches : la New Zealand Army, la Royal New Zealand Navy et la Royal New Zealand Air Force. Son commandant en chef est le gouverneur général (poste aujourd'hui occupé par Anand Satyanand), qui exerce le pouvoir sur les conseils du ministre de la Défense (Phil Goff), en accord avec le Defence Act 1990. Le commandant et dirigeant de la NZDF est le Chief of Defence Force (CDF), lieutenant général Jeremiah Mateparae, qui agit également en tant que premier conseiller militaire auprès du ministre de la défense.
