The New Testament (Koine Greek: Ἡ Καινὴ Διαθήκη, Hē Kainḕ Diathḗkē) is the second major division of the Christian biblical canon, the first division being the Old Testament. Unlike the Old Testament or Hebrew Bible, of which Christians hold different views, the contents of the New Testament deal explicitly with 1st century Christianity, although both the Old and New Testament are regarded, together, as sacred scripture. The New Testament has therefore (in whole or in part) frequently accompanied the spread of Christianity around the world, and both reflects and serves as a source for Christian theology. Phrases as well as extended readings directly from the New Testament are also incorporated (along with readings from the Old Testament) into the various Christian liturgies. The New Testament has influenced not only religious, philosophical, and political movements in Christendom, but also left an indelible mark on its literature, art, and music.

Das Neue Testament (abgekürzt NT) ist eine Sammlung von 27 Schriften des Urchristentums, die Jesus Christus im ständigen Rückbezug auf das Alte Testament als den zur Rettung Israels und des Kosmos gekommenen Messias und Sohn Gottes verkünden. Auf diese als Wort Gottes verstandenen Zeugnisse der Bibel beziehen sich alle Richtungen des Christentums.

On appelle Nouveau Testament ou Nouvelle Alliance (en grec : , Hē Kainḕ Diathḗkē) l’ensemble des écrits relatifs à la vie de Jésus et aux premières années du christianisme qui sont considérés comme authentiques par les Églises chrétiennes. Le mot « testament » vient du mot grec διαθήκη (diathḗkē, « testament, contrat, convention ») traduit en latin par testamentum (testament, témoignage). Le mot grec a un sens plus large (celui de contrat) que celui du mot latin. Aussi certains préfèrent le traduire par Alliance.

Nya Testamentet, förkortat NT, är en samling skrifter i den kristna Bibeln. De är skrivna av olika författare med olika syften mellan cirka år 45 och år 100 e.Kr. eller senare. De flesta skrifterna tillskrivs aposteln Paulus. Noterbart är att Paulus brev är skrivna betydligt tidigare än de fyra evangelierna. Trots detta har evangelierna placerats före breven i Nya Testamentet.
