Nerd

Nerd, as a stereotypical, archetypal and frequently derogatory designation, refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual or esoteric knowledge or pastimes rather than engaging in social life, such as participating in organized sports or other mainstream social activities. Merriam-Webster defines a nerd as an "unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person: especially: one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits." While nerd, dork, and geek share in passionate intellectual pursuits and social ineptitude, nerd has the added implication of being affable and amusing. A nerd is often excluded from physical activity, and is often considered a loner by peers.

N*E*R*D (pronounced 'en ee are dee', but also often referred to as simply 'nerd') is the name of a rock band consisting of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of The Neptunes and their friend Shay Haley. Their music is best described as funk/rock. Pharrell explains; "What is a N*E*R*D? N*E*R*D stands for No one Ever Really Dies. The Neptunes are who we are and N*E*R*D is what we do. It's our life. N*E*R*D is just a basic belief, man. People's energies are made of their souls. When you die, that energy may disperse but it isn't destroyed."

Nerd [] (engl. für Langweiler, Sonderling, Streber, Außenseiter) steht meist abwertend für besonders in Computer oder andere Bereiche aus Wissenschaft und Technik vertiefte Mitmenschen. Manchmal wird auch ein überdurchschnittlicher Intelligenzquotient (IQ) als begleitende Eigenschaft genannt. Ob jemand ein Nerd ist, hängt in erster Linie von der Einschätzung des Umfelds ab. Zwei Wertungsvarianten lassen sich feststellen:Außenstehende meinen „Nerd“ tendenziell abwertendGleichgesinnte umgekehrt als Auszeichnung (so wie man sich selbst auch positiv „Nerd“ nennt – ähnlich wie in anderen Minderheiten oder stark nach außen abgeschotteten Gruppen (vgl. Freak). N.E.R.D (Kurzform für No One Ever Really Dies) ist eine US-amerikanische Hip-Hop-/Rock-Band, die bei Virgin Records unter Vertrag stand.Sie besteht aus den Musikern Pharrell Williams und Chad Hugo (als Produzententeam unter dem Namen The Neptunes bekannt) und dem Sänger Shay. Das Debutalbum erschien im Sommer 2001 ausschließlich in Europa und nennt sich In Search Of ..., was Williams im Booklet der CD weiter ausführt: In Search Of Love And Happiness, In Search Of The Bitch With The Big Ass Or In Search Of Why My Brother Smokes Crack.

Nerd - pochodzące z języka angielskiego określenie osoby pasjonującej się naukami ścisłymi, informatyką, grami komputerowymi itp., często kosztem nieprzystosowania do życia społecznego, niezdolności utrzymywania stosunków towarzyskich lub niedbałości o formę fizyczną. Nerd è un termine della lingua inglese con cui tradizionalmente viene chiamato chi abbia una certa predisposizione per la ricerca intellettuale (magari associata ad una intelligenza superiore alla media) e sia al contempo solitario e con una più o meno spiccata predisposizione per l'asocialità. Il termine italiano più o meno corrispondente è "secchione" o, in un contesto prettamente negativo e con intenzioni sprezzanti, "sfigato".
