Navajo Nation

The Navajo Nation (Diné in Navajo language) encompasses all things important to the Navajo. The land, kinship, language, religion and the right to govern themselves. The Navajo Homeland covers about 26,000 square miles (70,000 square kilometres, 17 million acres) of land, occupying all of northeastern Arizona, and extending into Utah and New Mexico, and is the largest land area assigned primarily to a Native American jurisdiction within the United States. Members of the nation are often known as Navajo (or Navaho) but traditionally call themselves Diné (sometimes spelled in English as Dineh) which means people.

Les Navajos (ou Navahos) constituent un peuple amérindien d'Amérique du Nord de la famille linguistique athapascane et de la zone culturelle du sud-ouest. Die Navajo-Nation (auch Navajo Indian Reservation) ist mit 55.900 km² die größte Indianerreservation in den USA. Sie wurde den Diné-Indianern 1868 durch General Sherman vertraglich zugesichert. Die Hauptstadt ist Window Rock, Arizona.

Nawahowie, Nawaho (ang. Navajo Nation, w języku navajo Naabeehó Dine'é) - największe plemię indiańskie Ameryki Północnej liczące blisko 300 tys. osób (2000 r.). Większość z nich (około 173 tys.) zamieszkuje rezerwat położony na pograniczu stanów  Arizona, Nowy Meksyk oraz Utah. Rezerwat (ang.  The Navajo Indian Reservation) ma powierzchnię ponad 70 tys km², czyli równą powierzchni np. Czech. Diné Bikéyah, czyli Kraj Nawahów jest większy niż 10 z 50 stanów USA.

I Navajo o Navaho sono un popolo nativo americano stanziato nell'Arizona settentrionale e in parte dei territori dello Utah e del Nuovo Messico. Attualmente formano il gruppo etnico più consistente fra i nativi americani.
