Nauplion

Nafplion (Ναύπλιο), on the Peloponnese in Greece, is a seaport town that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf (Argolikos Bay). The town was the capital of Greece from 1829 to 1834, and is where Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the modern Greek state, was assassinated. Nafplion, with a population of (13,822) is the capital of the prefecture of Argolis and the province of Nafplion.

Nauplie (en grec moderne  / Náfplio) est une ville grecque, dans le Péloponnèse. Capitale de l’Argolide, siège d’un évêché, située en bord de mer, c'est une cité historique et touristique qui compte (2001) 13 822 habitants. La ville est installée sur le versant nord de la presqu'île d’Itch-Kalé (85 m) et est dominée par le rocher Palamède (ou Palamidi) (286 m), qui surveille la plaine de l'Argolide et de Lerne. Occupée successivement par les « Francs », les Vénitiens et les Turcs, qui y ont laissé leur empreinte, la ville, qui fut longtemps appelée Napoli di Romania est dominée par deux forteresses: Acronauplie et Palamède. Elle a été la seconde capitale de l'État grec libre (1828-1834), après Égine. L'entrée du port est gardée par la forteresse Bourdzi, de style vénitien.

Nafplio, auch Nauplion ( Náfplio(n)), in der Antike Nauplia ( Nauplía) ist eine Hafenstadt am Argolischen Golf auf dem Peloponnes in Griechenland. Die Stadt hat 16.900 Einwohner (2001) und ist die Hauptstadt der Präfektur Argolis. Von 1829 bis 1834 war Nafplio die provisorische Hauptstadt von Griechenland.

Nauplion (gr. Ναύπλιο - Nafplio) - miasto w Grecji, na Peloponezie, stolica nomosu Argolida, około 14,5 tys. mieszkańców (stan z roku 2001). Nauplion z powodu strategicznego położenia w kieszeni Zatoki Argolidzkiej był początkowo - obok Argos - jednym w ważniejszych miast portowych Argolidy. W epoce klasycznej nastąpił powolny upadek miasta, aż zostało ono opuszczone w II wieku p. n. e.. Do naszych czasów dotrwały starożytne ruiny, widoczne na niewielkim stanowisku archeologicznym w mieście.

Nauplion is een Griekse havenstad op de Peloponnesos, gelegen aan de Golf van Argolís, met ca. 11.000 inw. De naam van de stad is – wat, door de transliteratie van Griekse woorden, met vele Griekse plaatsnamen het geval is – in verschillende spellingsvarianten bekend: Nauplion en fonetisch Návplion, of Náfplion, waarbij ook nog eens de eind-n kan weggelaten worden (Návplio, of Náfplio);naar de antieke naam: Nauplia en fonetisch Návplia, of Náfplia (deze laatste twee minder gebruikelijk).
